ADJUSTING YOUR "PNW" REAR SIGHT
Before you start, PLEASE MAKE D@^~ SURE THE RIFLE IS
EMPTY and
SAFE
Step # 1: Most changes to the Rear Sight are best done, if you will keep the Rear Sight attached to the Rifle. Having the Rifle seated into a Vise, or 'Cleaning-Craddle' works best. All work done to the Sight is best done over a light colored cloth, to catch any falling objects. All flying objects...... you're on your own!STEP # 2: Place the Rifle over the light cloth and select the proper size hex tool from the "Parts Kit". Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus and a Parts Kit with Tools for your PNW Sight.
Step # 3: To change the Elevation Knob Zero, Note where the Knob is now pointing. (1:00 or 4:00 etc) Decide now where you will want the Knob to point when you're finished. Count the number of "Clicks" to that point. Example: let's say the Knob is now pointing at 4:00 and you want it to point to 12:00. Push the Knob toward the Sight as you loosen the hex screw. Twist the knob 4 clicks counter clock wise, you're there. But you have lost your spring tension on the knob and there will be "Back-Lash". Go to the next step.
Step # 4: Now, place a pencil or similiar object between the Elevation Block and the Sight Base [see "E" Pencil in picture]. Now turn the Elevation Knob so the Elevation Block is pushed gently against the pencil. Loosen the Hex Screw 1/2 turn, keeping slight pressure with a finger on the Knob to stop the spring tension from popping the Knob off the Elevation Shaft. You can now Push the Knob Farther onto the shaft and re-tighten the hex screw. This will remove the unwanted "Back-Lash". This "Feeling" of the torque-required to turn the knob, is personal preference. Keep in mind though, if there is TOO much tension on the spring-loaded check-balls, you will have difficulty making sight corrections.
Step # 5: To change the Windage Knob Pointer, use the same process as the Elevation Knob. The only exception is the placement of the pencil. On this step, place the pencil as shown on the photo: under the Windage Guide Pins, between the Windage Block and the Elevation Block.
Step # 6: Now if you want to change your PNW Sight from 1/4 to 1/2 Minute Windage, thse are the steps.
First, note where your Zero Mark is Pointed.
Second, place the Sight so that the Knob is over the center of the Light Colored Cloth.
Third, loosen the Hex Screw about one full turn and carefully pull the Knob off the Windage Shaft.
Fourth, remove the Check-Balls and Springs from the 12:00 and 6:00 holes on the knob.
Fifth, put a small dab of thick grease on the spring tips that are going to stay in the Knob, and set the Check-Balls onto the grease.
Sixth, Now very carefully place the Knob onto the Shaft, with the Hex Screw Pointing about where you want it for your Zero.
Seventh step is to adjust the "Back-Lash" discussed earlier in these instructions.EDITED ON 16 MAY '00
